This site is really truly geared towards my knitting, but I haven’t been doing much of that! I have gotten the kilt hose done, though. huzzah! It feels wonderful to finally have this off the needles. While is was fun to figure out how to intarsia in the round for myself, once it was figured out, it quickly became more tedious than interesting. It wouldn’t be so bad, I think, if I could figure out how to manage the bobbins! I did not account for bobbins and dpns. Bobbins are a nuisance enough on flat knitting. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t terrible… they just had to be kept short. They tangle very easily!
I have started another commission, I think I mentioned it before. A sweater. I’m using Ella Rae Silkience, and I really like it. It’s such a shame it’s been discontinued. It doesn’t split, it has good body, blocks well, and has a beautiful shine and brilliant color. I need to figure out how to get a more accurate color representation in my photographs, while still maintaining the clarity I desire. The flash eliminates shadow, and in the case of knitting, also eliminates interest and detail, whereas taking a picture without flash, in poor light (as we have at 8:45 pm!) muddies the color. So, I will now show you two photos. The first is the color, the second is the detail.

This sweater has an interesting origin. A gentleman came into a knitting store I was KIPing at, and wanted a sweater made. This is a not-so-common request, and in general, stores don’t accept them. Every once in a while, though, one gets sent my way. This gentleman’s mother has a certain sweater that she wears all the time. She loves it — except the color. It’s a grey-green blah of a thing, and she really, really loves turquoise. I am her solution. I was not able to examine this sweater in person. The new sweater is meant to be a surprise. Luckily, the gentleman who has commissioned me to duplicate her sweater took many pictures and measurements from which I am able to work.
I just hope I have enough yarn!
